FAQs

  • Who is Corey La Rue?

Corey La Rue is an artist and activist based in Los Angeles. My work weaves Mexican heritage with the city's raw earth, drawing inspiration from Jung’s psychological landscapes and my Za-zen Buddhist practice. Through painting, I capture the flora and fauna of both nature and the psyche, balancing form and emptiness in abstract, impressionist, and post-conceptual styles.

  • What inspires your artwork?

My creations explore the tactile interplay of self and landscape, blending cultural roots with meditative introspection. Elements like flowering cacti, swirling night skies, colorful flora against dramatic backgrounds, and impressionist scenes of mountains, rivers, and moons reflect a harmony between the natural world and inner psychological terrain.

  • What mediums and techniques do you use?

I work primarily with oil, oil pastel, charcoal, indigo, cochineal, and local soil, applied to wood panels and paper. This allows for rich textures and earthy tones that evoke both vibrancy and depth, from bold pinks and oranges in floral abstracts to subtle black-and-white sketches of leaves and stems.

  • What types of artwork are featured on your site?

You'll find a diverse collection of paintings and sketches, including abstract depictions of cacti with pink flowers under yellow suns, impressionist landscapes with green hills and sunset moons, swirling night skies in teal and red, and close-up studies of bellflowers or trees in vibrant purples and blues. Themes often revolve around nature's beauty intertwined with emotional and spiritual elements.

The Ethos page dives into my creative process—how Mexican heritage, Los Angeles' urban grit, and Buddhist mindfulness shape each piece. It's an invitation to understand the psychological and natural forces that drive my exploration of form, emptiness, and the self in landscape.

  • Why should I collect your art?

My pieces aren't just visuals—they're portals to balance and reflection, merging cultural depth with nature's raw energy. Whether it's a vibrant floral abstract or a meditative moonlit scene, each work invites you to pause, breathe, and connect with the interplay of your inner and outer worlds.
